Digital Storytelling

Digital Storytelling is not for me (at this time). This was one of the hardest assignments for me to complete and I am sad because it is very neat. I was required to make a digital video and upload it to YouTube for everyone to view. The problem I found was the issue of copyright violations. I was very stressed and concerned that I might include something that was copyrighted that would lead to problems in the future. I chose to do my video on landmarks in London because I personally took all the photos and knew I would not face issues with Copyrights. It was also a challenge to find music that had been released to the public. Most music that we hear on the radio has to be released by the artist before it can be used so I had to use some music that I had never heard of before and wasn’t that fond of. Actually making the video was really quite simple and it was neat to see how all the transitions and animations flowed together in the final product.
This technology is one that I might shy away from until I really understand what content is allowed to be used on the videos and I have the confidence that I did not include anything that could be considered a violation. At this time I am not certain that I will assign this to my students either for the same reason. If we are doing a unit that includes something 100% personal then I might consider this an option for a project. Coming to the realization that I am not going to use this technology in my classroom makes me sad because it is such a great resource. I am glad to know that it is available and that I have an understanding of how to use it in case I chose to in the future. This assignment met the ISTE Nets T, 2, ISTE Nets‐T, 2 a, and ISTE Nets‐T, 1a technology requirements.
